Good People, can you believe it? It's been 1 year since we've been doing this Truth Prescription Podcast. Our first guest on April 11th, 2017 was Dr. Anthony Watkins and now we are 26 episodes in an entire year later.

Season Two kicks off on Monday with Dr Chris Zaino. I wanted to take this time to thank you, listeners, for staying with me on this journey. This season, they'll be more stories, more laughter and of course, more truth.

Jimmy Myers: Part Two

shapeimage_3.png

We continue the two part special of our Jimmy Myers interview. It's an apt time to interview him as he approaches 50 years in broadcasting which is a milestone for any individual.

This episode, we dive into:
- His interviews with Ruben "Hurricane," Carter and other notorious individuals
- Playing basketball with Barrack Obama
- His journey in broadcasting and some of the challenges he faced.

I loved this interview and sharing his story of truth with you. Here's the final chapter of the two-part series with my Uncle Jimmy.

Jimmy Myers: A Hurricane of Truth & Broadcasting Talent

shapeimage_4.png

This is one of the most exciting interviews on The Truth Prescription. Our next guest paved the way for other black sportscasters and people of colour in the industry.

His innate ability to be able to talk truth with his guests, like Ruben "Hurricane," Carter, is what inspired other greats like Denzel Washington to want to play his role in the movie.

In this two-part Truth Prescription special, we chat with the legendary radio and television broadcaster Jimmy Myers.

This episode, we dive into his journey in broadcasting from being an anchor at WBZ Boston, working for WWRTV where he won broadcaster of the year to move to FOX 25 to then hosting his own sports variety talk show called, "The Jimmy Myers Sports Exchange."

A broadcast icon in his own right, but I have the unique privilege of calling this man my Godfather. Here's part one with Uncle Jimmy.

Eljay Aguillo's project, "Why I Love New York City," is a photo-documentary on Instagram which is now a published book. What inspired Eljay to put this together was the journey of truth he had to go through to meet his now wife, Maria.

We talk about:
- How a defining moment of truth came in the form of a Joss Stone song
- How moving to New York City to mend his broken heart opened up an opportunity
- How a twist of fate of mixed up credit cards lead him to meet his current wife

Eljay's amazing book, "Why I Love New York City," has captured over 700 stories of love people have for the city of New York. As a fellow New Yorker, there isn't much I can find that I don't love about this city.

Ali Muhammad - The Professional Storyteller

Good People. I should tell you first that this interview contains explicit language. So if you have little ones around, tell them to come listen when they're 18. This interview with Ali Muhammad was the most relaxed interview I've done - and by relaxed I mean, we ordered some chicken (which he ate), got some other food and drink - it was literally a recording of a conversation over a meal.

Ali Muhammad is the Co-Host of In the Conversation Podcast so he's no stranger to the audio platform. He calls himself a professional storyteller and drops so many wise comments in our conversation. He believes being in any religion of any kind - no matter if you're Christian, Islam or Buddhist, it requires discipline. This conversation has laughs, wisdom and of course...swearing.

Amber Gelinas: Hot Tubs, Modelling & Reality of Truth

Amber Gelinas.jpg

She’s not the first Reality TV contestant we’ve had on The Truth Prescription, but Amber Gelina’s story of accepting her truth saw it’s highs and lows.

Born to French-Asian parents, the cultural expectations that came with her heritage assumed Amber would take a conventional job in being a doctor, lawyer or an engineer (which her brother followed). From a young age, Amber knew that she was different:

“I remember dressing up in my mums silky nightgowns. I always knew I was going to be something different. I finally have acknowledged the truth.”

She left her conventional career and during this time, she lost her vision in both eyes which was later diagnosed to be Conversion disorder. This is when you have a mental or emotional trauma and it’s not dealt with properly, the symptoms can start to manifest themselves physically. During this time, Amber was on disability and ended up at a hot tub party where a casting agent found her and sparked her modelling and acting career.

It was when she moved to Australia and that she auditioned for The Batchelor in 2014 and was one of the contestants. In this episode of the Truth Prescription, we go beyond the glamour of modelling and reality television and talk about:

  • Overcoming the expectations and conventions cultures and family can place on us
  • Following your dreams is an imperative truth to accept when it comes to your health
  • Handling the pressures of modelling and fame
  • Managing an eating disorder

Holiday Rant - The Priceless Gift

Christmas.jpg

It’s a Holiday special on The Truth Prescription Podcast. Some of you may feel that this time of year is when you’re really served up a dose of truth along with plenty of the festive cheer. As I try with each episode to give you a gift; a gift of truth and knowledge, I wanted to bring to your awareness a few of the things that you could think about today especially, being Christmas Day.

This short audio piece is just a reminder for all of us, especially today and in this day and time to:

  • Be Kind – treat others how we’d like to be treated
  • Slow Down, breathe it in
  • Be Thankful – for what you have and what you don’t have.

Do it. Now’s a good a time as any.

Happy Holidays everybody.

Next Episode: Monday, January 8 with Amber Gelinas

20170420-170839H.jpg

It’s the 18th Episode of The Truth Prescription and we’re almost wrapping up 2017 after nine months of interviews, guests and of course, bi monthly dosages of truth. This week, we share one of the most unique stories of truth we’ve ever come across in our series of podcasts. Shakti Durga, or Kim Fraser, is Australia’s first female Guru. The name “Guru,” in traditional sanskrit means teacher, guide, expert or master. She is an author, musician and founder of Shanti Mission Harmony Centres – a school with meditations, teachings and courses that are located all around the world.

We explore the truths around:

  •    How she went from corporate lawyer, to energetic healer, to Guru
  •    It was when her marriage broke down that she found meditation which sparked her spiritual path
  • The five dimensions of self that each individual has

Another beautiful element that this podcast has is that she offers our listeners a special blessing at the end. If you want to connect with Shakti Durga, here’s how:

Dr Gathers Rant on Hollywood Sexual Assault Claims

Photo of Seku.jpg

On this weeks Truth Prescription, it's a special episode. We take a break from the usual guests as Dr. Gathers gets into the conversations about the recent sexual assault claims against some of Hollywood's most powerful.

In this rant, Dr G discusses the discrepancy in female decision makers in the entertainment industry and just how this lack of diversity is having a greater implication on the decision making process. Research has shown that in 2015/16, 10% of women were in positions were they had the decision making capacity as directors, producers, writers and ever lead characters. He addresses the systematic issues by having a structure that is so male predominated.

From a clinical perspective, he discusses how the perpetrators can be helped.

Evrythng Cost: The Cost of Being Great

Evrythng Cost.jpg

Evrythng Cost aka Roger “Mista Raja Greene,” hails from South Bronx, New York. Even though now he is at the forefront as an artist, the interesting thing about this super talented dude is that he has written and worked with the likes of Diddy, Maino, K-ci & Jojo,, R Kelly, Lil Kim, Akon and Barry White to name a few.

After working at UPS in New York for two weeks, he moved to Atlanta with the hope of pursuing his dreams. He began working his way into songwriting and caught the attention of P.Diddy (then known as Puff Daddy) where he was assigned to work on writing the song “Satisfy You.” After talking to his female friends, something was inspired within him and he began to write the lyrics which when heard by JLo herself, gave him the nod of approval from Diddy for his first song.

We learn about:

-       The hilarious and insightful process Roger went through to writing Satisfy You

-       How the definition of success is personal to everyone

-       The prospect of success doesn’t always guarantee loyalty in friends
