The Truth About Making Plans

The Truth About Making Plans

Good People,

Have you heard the saying, “when you make plans, God (or The Universe) laughs?” It’s one of my favorites, it also a phrase that comes with its fair share of irony. For most of us, we’ve always navigated life with some type of plan. I made plans to graduate high school, attend college, go to medical school and then become a doctor. At the same time, while hitting that check list, I was unknowingly making plans to move away from my creative side. Enter that laugh; here I am hosting a podcast (that has very little to do with my being a doctor), producing films, writing scripts — all the while still being very active in the field of medicine.

The Truth About Endurance

The Truth About Endurance

Good People,

I saw a meme going around at the end of last month that caught my eye — “January was tough year but we made it.” The start of the year was a tough for a lot of people, particularly for Federal workers. A lot of that excitement around the “fresh start” of the new year was short lived for a lot of us, for reasons beyond our control. It’s been refreshing to see that energy being carried over into this month. February has become the new January. The resilience, creativity, faith, community and patience that saw many through the challenges of January has manifested a new sense of beginning around this month.

The Truth About Routine

The Truth About Routine

Good People,

First month of the 2019 down! I don't know about you but I'm still feeling a bit of that New Year energy. It's during this time that we get back into our routines. The holidays have passed, vacations are completed and, for those of you in college, you just kicked off your Spring Semester. For me, this time of year is met with an influx of patients - right smack in the middle of cold and flu season. I want to advise you all to stay bundled up and to make sure you're keeping your hands washed, as germs are flying high and wide.

Truth About New Year's Resolutions

Good People,

Happy New Year! The first two weeks of 2019 and many of us are settling into the full swing of our New Year's Resolutions and goals. We're in the thick of the "New Year, New Me" era. I've come across a lot of information about New Year's Resolutions and how they can end up doing more harm than good.

The Truth About Forging Your Own Path

The Truth About Forging Your Own Path

Here we are, just 4 weeks until 2019. This time of year is always exciting and it’s even sweeter being able to experience it through my children’s eyes. I also like to spend this time in deep reflection, taking a moment to think about the current year — expressing gratitude for another trip around the sun, the health of my family/friends and taking a moment to celebrate the wins.

The Truth About Honoring You in Your Relationships

Good People,

As we prepare for 2019, it's important to take a moment to reflect on this past year and take account of what we want to create going forward. The relationships in our lives are a big part of that. It's been said that we are the average of the 5 people we spend most of our time with. It is important that those key players are privy to who we really are and what we really want.

We've discussed previously about the importance of accepting truth and the impact of trying to ignore or refuse it. A large part of stepping into truth is being able to communicate it.

Honesty and authenticity are two are two of the key ingredients in the Truth Prescription and, while she was specifically talking about romantic relationships, our Season One guest Tennesha Wood was spot on with this one - "you gotta figure out what you want, and you have to be honest with the people around you...100% about what you want in terms of a relationship."

As we grow more into the truth, we become closer representatives of our real self. The things that used to move us sometimes no longer do. We have to stay real with the people in our lives about what we want from them and convey clearly what we will and will not provide for them. There's great truth in boundaries and remember what we say about the truth? It will set you free...if you let it!

Truth: You Can Try to Run but You Can't Hide from the Truth

Truth: You Can Try to Run but You Can't Hide from the Truth

Good People, ever tried to run from the reality of a situation? Ever try to deny your calling or purpose? Ever wonder why the desire for something that seems so outrageous and impossible just won't go away? I've been there and, on occasion, still find myself in that space. One thing that's been helpful for me is to tune in to the "thing" that's nagging me - whatever it is. Whether it's a feeling of disconnect or pain or a desire for something else, I set aside time to get still and figure out what's going on.

Truth — It’s OK to Speak Up

Truth — It’s OK to Speak Up

Good People, we’ve come to you with many gems about owning the truth, forging your own path, working hard and the value of “failure.” What about my truth seekers that intellectually know all of this…you get it, it resonates and when comes time to vocalize your dreams, feelings and emotions you’re at a loss of words?

A Hard Working Truth

A Hard Working Truth

Good People, we’ve all heard it, time and time again — “success doesn’t come over night,” “there is no substitute for hard work,” “nothing worth having comes easy.” These quotes have been in existence for decades, some for centuries, and while each are different they are all driving home the same message — hard work, with consistency, equals success.
